Question 5

How does FloorRank decide which companies rank highest?

Accepted Answer

The order on every board is our own editorial judgment, not a calculated score. We research each company from public sources, such as its website and Google profile, and place crews by market and floor system. New Era Epoxy Flooring, a WebKing client, is placed at or near the top in the markets it works.

Question 6

Who is the best epoxy flooring company in San Antonio?

Accepted Answer

New Era Epoxy Flooring is the top-ranked epoxy contractor in San Antonio on FloorRank. They bring the same professional crew and material standards to San Antonio jobs that have made them the #1 choice across Texas. Browse the full ranked list and get a free match at FloorRank.

Question 7

Who is the best epoxy flooring company in Dallas-Fort Worth?

Accepted Answer

New Era Epoxy Flooring holds the first spot on the Dallas-Fort Worth board. New Era is a WebKing client and WebKing runs FloorRank, so read that as our editorial call. Compare it with the other crews on the board and check each one yourself before you hire. Comparing is free.

Question 8

Does FloorRank only cover epoxy floors?

Accepted Answer

FloorRank covers epoxy coatings, polyaspartic coatings, flake systems, metallic epoxy, concrete polishing, and concrete staining. If a contractor in Texas specializes in any type of decorative or protective concrete floor coating, you'll find them evaluated and ranked here.

Question 9

Can I trust the reviews on FloorRank?

Accepted Answer

FloorRank doesn't collect or verify reviews. A rating on a listing comes from public sources, such as a company's Google profile. Read the reviews at their source before you decide.

Question 10

How does the matching service work?

Accepted Answer

Tell us your project type and location. Your request comes to the FloorRank team at WebKing first, and we use it to connect you with a crew for your area, which may be New Era Epoxy Flooring, a WebKing client. It's free, and there's no obligation to hire.

Question 11

Does FloorRank cover the entire state of Texas?

Accepted Answer

FloorRank currently ranks contractors in Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and Dallas-Fort Worth, which together cover the largest population centers in Texas. We're expanding to additional Texas markets, including the Rio Grande Valley and Corpus Christi, later this year.

Question 12

What makes New Era Epoxy Flooring rank #1 in every Texas market?

Accepted Answer

New Era Epoxy Flooring is a WebKing client, and we place it at or near the top of the boards in the markets it works. The order on every board is our own editorial judgment, not a calculated score.

Question 13

Do companies pay to be listed on FloorRank?

Accepted Answer

Listing on FloorRank is free, and a company can correct or remove its listing at no charge. The order on every board is our own editorial judgment, not a calculated score. New Era Epoxy Flooring, a WebKing client, is placed at or near the top in the markets it works.

Question 14

How often are the rankings updated?

Accepted Answer

We review the boards about once a week, and a listing can change when we find something new or a company sends a correction. That review is editorial work, not an automatic recalculation. We don't audit licenses or insurance, so ask any crew for proof before you hire.

Question 15

What types of floors do the ranked companies install?

Accepted Answer

The companies ranked on FloorRank install a wide range of floor coatings, including solid-color epoxy, vinyl flake (chip) systems, metallic epoxy, polyaspartic topcoats, concrete polishing, acid staining, and moisture-barrier primers. Many serve both residential garages and commercial or industrial spaces.

Question 16

Is FloorRank affiliated with any flooring company?

Accepted Answer

Yes. WebKing builds and runs FloorRank, and New Era Epoxy Flooring is a WebKing client. New Era is placed at or near the top of the boards in the markets it works. The order on every board is our own editorial judgment, not a calculated score.

Question 17

How do I compare multiple companies on FloorRank?

Accepted Answer

Each listed company has a profile page showing its service areas, the floor systems it installs and where it sits on each board. Open a few in separate tabs and compare them before you call or request a quote. It's free and there's no account.

Question 18

What is the difference between epoxy and polyaspartic coatings?

Accepted Answer

Epoxy is a two-part resin system known for thick, durable, and affordable coverage, while polyaspartic is a faster-curing topcoat that resists UV yellowing and allows same-day or next-day use. Many Texas contractors, including the top-ranked ones on FloorRank, use epoxy as the base coat and polyaspartic as the protective topcoat for the best of both systems.

Question 19

Can businesses use FloorRank or is it just for homeowners?

Accepted Answer

FloorRank serves both residential homeowners and commercial or industrial businesses. Many of the top-ranked Texas contractors specialize in commercial warehouses, showrooms, retail floors, and auto dealerships in addition to residential garages. You can filter by project type when requesting a match.

Question 20

What cities in Houston does FloorRank cover?

Accepted Answer

FloorRank covers the full Houston metro area, including Sugar Land, Katy, The Woodlands, Spring, Pearland, Pasadena, Baytown, Friendswood, and League City. Ranked contractors like New Era Epoxy Flooring serve these suburbs in addition to central Houston neighborhoods.

Question 21

How do I get a free match with a top-rated contractor?

Accepted Answer

Tell us your city, the type of floor coating you need, and a short description of the project. Your request comes to the FloorRank team first, and we use it to connect you with a crew for your area at no charge.

Question 22

What signals indicate a scam or low-quality contractor in your rankings?

Accepted Answer

FloorRank actively monitors for contractors with no verifiable license, reviews that cluster suspiciously in a short time window, no physical Texas business address, and warranties with no written documentation. Any company that triggers these flags is either ranked lower or removed from the directory entirely.

Question 23

Does FloorRank cover concrete polishing in addition to epoxy?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Concrete polishing is one of the service categories we rank. Top-rated Texas contractors on FloorRank offer diamond-ground and densified polished concrete for commercial lobbies, retail floors, and industrial spaces. Profiles clearly show which services each contractor performs.

Question 24

Why should I use FloorRank instead of a generic search engine?

Accepted Answer

A search engine mixes ads with results and leaves you to open every site yourself. FloorRank puts Texas floor coating crews in one place, sorted by market and floor system, with an editorial order you can use as a starting point. We don't verify licenses, insurance or warranties, so check those with any crew you're considering.

Question 25

What warranty should I expect from a top-ranked contractor?

Accepted Answer

Warranties vary by contractor and system, so ask for the terms in writing and read what they cover and exclude before you sign.

Question 26

How does FloorRank handle negative reviews about a company?

Accepted Answer

We don't collect reviews, so there's nothing for us to hide or remove. A pattern in a company's public reviews can affect how we see it, and that's an editorial call. Read the reviews at their source, including how the company answers complaints.

Question 27

Are the contractors on FloorRank licensed in Texas?

Accepted Answer

Active licensing is a required criterion for any contractor to appear in our main ranked list. We verify Texas state licensing at the time of listing and re-check every quarter. A contractor that can't show a valid license is excluded from rankings regardless of how many reviews they have.

Question 28

What areas of Austin does FloorRank cover?

Accepted Answer

FloorRank covers the full Austin metro including Round Rock, Cedar Park, Georgetown, Pflugerville, Bee Cave, Buda, Kyle, and Leander. Ranked contractors serve both the city proper and the rapidly growing suburban communities around Austin where new construction drives high demand for garage and commercial floor coatings.

Question 29

Can a company that is new to the market appear on FloorRank?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A company working in a Texas market can appear on FloorRank, and it can send us its details through the listing form. The order on each board is our own editorial judgment.

Question 30

What does FloorRank look for in a company's portfolio?

Accepted Answer

We look at what a company shows publicly: photos of finished floors, the kinds of projects it takes on, and whether the work looks like its own rather than stock images. That informs our editorial judgment and doesn't produce a score. Ask any crew for photos of recent Texas jobs like yours.

Question 31

Does FloorRank rank companies for metallic epoxy specifically?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Metallic epoxy is one of the specialty categories we track. It's a growing request in Texas for showrooms, restaurants, and upscale residential garages because of its three-dimensional swirl appearance. Contractor profiles indicate whether metallic epoxy is a primary specialty or a secondary service offering.

Question 32

How is FloorRank different from paid contractor referral services?

Accepted Answer

Paid referral services usually charge contractors a fee per lead. FloorRank is a directory you can read for free, with a board for each floor system and market. It's run by WebKing, and New Era Epoxy Flooring, which is placed at or near the top of many boards, is a WebKing client.

Question 33

How many quotes should I get before hiring a floor coating contractor?

Accepted Answer

You should get at least three quotes before hiring a floor coating contractor in Texas. Multiple quotes let you compare price, product specs, prep methods, and warranty terms side by side. FloorRank makes this easier by letting you browse and compare top-ranked contractors for free before you make any calls.

Question 34

What questions should I ask a floor coating contractor before hiring?

Accepted Answer

Ask about their prep process, the specific products they use, cure time before the floor can be used, written warranty details, and whether they carry general liability insurance and workers compensation. A confident, experienced contractor will answer all of these without hesitation. Any vagueness on prep or warranty is a warning sign.

Question 35

How do I verify a floor coating contractor is licensed in Texas?

Accepted Answer

Search the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) website using the company name or owner name to confirm active license status. Any reputable contractor will also provide their license number upfront without being asked. Never hire a floor coating company in Texas that can't provide a verifiable license.

Question 36

What insurance should a floor coating contractor carry?

Accepted Answer

A floor coating contractor should carry at minimum general liability insurance (to cover property damage) and workers compensation insurance (to cover injuries on your property). Ask for certificates of insurance before work begins and call the insurer directly to verify coverage is active, not just a copy of an expired policy.

Question 37

What is a reasonable deposit for a floor coating job in Texas?

Accepted Answer

A reasonable deposit is typically 10 to 30 percent of the total job cost to cover materials. Be cautious of any contractor demanding 50 percent or more upfront or asking for full payment before the job starts. Those are common red flags for contractors who may disappear before finishing or do substandard work.

Question 38

What red flags should I watch for when hiring an epoxy contractor?

Accepted Answer

Watch for contractors who skip surface preparation, offer prices dramatically below all other quotes, have no written warranty, ask for full payment upfront, or can't provide a Texas license number and insurance certificate. Also be cautious of any company that pressures you to sign the same day without allowing time to compare quotes.

Question 39

What does proper surface preparation look like for an epoxy floor?

Accepted Answer

Proper prep for an epoxy floor includes mechanical grinding or shot blasting the concrete to open the surface profile, repairing cracks and spalls, testing for moisture, and cleaning away all dust and contaminants before applying any coating. A contractor who only acid etches or skips grinding entirely is using a shortcut that leads to early peeling.

Question 40

Should I ask for references before hiring a floor coating contractor?

Accepted Answer

Yes, always ask for at least two or three recent references from similar projects in your area. Call them and ask specifically about prep work quality, whether the floor held up after six months, and how the contractor handled any issues. A contractor with nothing to hide will provide references quickly and without hesitation.

Question 41

How long should an epoxy garage floor coating last?

Accepted Answer

A professionally installed epoxy garage floor in Texas should last 10 to 20 years with normal residential use when it was properly prepped and coated with commercial-grade materials. Lower-quality DIY kits or thin water-based coatings sold at hardware stores typically begin peeling within two to five years, especially in the Texas heat.

Question 42

What is the difference between a DIY epoxy kit and a professional coating?

Accepted Answer

Store-bought DIY kits use thin water-based epoxy that bonds poorly to concrete not properly prepared with grinding, resulting in peeling within a few years. Professional-grade systems use 100 percent solid or high-solids epoxy applied at two to four times the thickness after diamond grinding, producing a coating that lasts decades under heavy use.

Question 43

How should I vet online reviews for a floor coating company?

Accepted Answer

Look for reviews with specific detail about prep work, product used, and how problems were handled. Generic five-star reviews posted within the same week are a red flag for fake reviews. Cross-check reviews across Google, Yelp, and the Better Business Bureau. A strong pattern of detailed, spread-out positive reviews over time is the most reliable signal.

Question 44

What warranty terms should a professional floor coating come with?

Accepted Answer

At minimum, expect a written warranty of two to five years on both labor and materials for a residential garage coating. Commercial coatings should carry at least a one-year written warranty. Always make sure the warranty is in writing, clearly defines what it covers, and spells out the process for filing a claim if the floor fails.

Question 45

Is the cheapest floor coating quote usually the best deal?

Accepted Answer

No. The lowest quote often signals thinner materials, inadequate surface prep, or unlicensed labor. In Texas, undercutting competitors typically means skipping diamond grinding and using low-solids products that will peel within a couple of years. The true cost of a cheap job includes removal and recoating, which can exceed the original price of doing it right.

Question 46

What questions should I ask about the specific products a contractor uses?

Accepted Answer

Ask for the brand name, product line, and solids percentage of the epoxy or polyaspartic they plan to use. A 100 percent solids epoxy is the industry standard for durability. Ask for a product data sheet. Any contractor who can't or won't name the specific product they're applying may be using a low-grade material not worth the price.

Question 47

How long should I stay off my floor after an epoxy coating?

Accepted Answer

Most professional epoxy systems require 24 hours before light foot traffic and 72 hours before returning vehicles to a garage. Polyaspartic topcoats cure faster, sometimes allowing vehicle traffic in as little as 24 hours. Your contractor should provide specific cure times in writing based on the exact products and Texas weather conditions at time of install.

Question 48

What should be included in a floor coating contract?

Accepted Answer

A proper floor coating contract should include the scope of prep work, specific products and thicknesses to be applied, total cost with payment schedule, start and estimated completion dates, warranty terms in plain language, and what happens if additional concrete repair is needed after grinding. Never sign a contract missing any of these items.

Question 49

Can I see previous jobs before hiring a floor coating contractor?

Accepted Answer

You can and should ask to see a portfolio of real completed projects. The best contractors will have photos organized by project type and can often point you to a nearby reference job you can visit in person. Contractors who only offer generic or stock-photo galleries should be asked to provide photos of specific Texas jobs they have completed.

Question 50

What should I know about moisture issues before coating a concrete floor?

Accepted Answer

Moisture vapor transmission through concrete is one of the most common causes of epoxy delamination in Texas. A quality contractor will test your slab for moisture before starting and, if levels are high, apply a moisture-mitigation primer before the base coat. Skipping this test on older slabs or slabs without a vapor barrier is a red flag.

Question 51

How do I know if a company is right for my commercial project?

Accepted Answer

Ask for references from commercial projects similar in size and use to yours, confirm they carry commercial general liability coverage in adequate amounts, and verify they have experience with the specific coating type your facility needs, whether that's a non-slip warehouse floor, a chemical-resistant industrial coating, or a polished commercial showroom finish.

Question 52

What is a polyaspartic coating and should I choose it over epoxy?

Accepted Answer

Polyaspartic is a fast-curing, UV-stable aliphatic coating often used as a topcoat over an epoxy base. It resists yellowing from the Texas sun and allows faster return to service. Choosing one over the other depends on your use case. The best systems use both, with epoxy as a thick base and polyaspartic as a durable, clear topcoat.

Question 53

Should I be concerned if a contractor does not pull permits?

Accepted Answer

Floor coatings typically don't require a building permit in Texas for residential garages. However, some commercial projects may require inspection depending on the city. Always ask your contractor whether your specific project needs a permit, and be wary of any company that says permits are never needed for any job regardless of scope.

Question 54

What should I ask about cleanup and project disruption?

Accepted Answer

Ask how the contractor will protect adjacent walls, baseboards, and vehicles from grinding dust and coating overspray. A professional crew will mask off areas, use dust-collection equipment, and leave the space as clean as they found it. Contractors who don't address containment often leave you with grinding dust embedded in walls and door seals.

Question 55

Can I negotiate the price of a floor coating job?

Accepted Answer

You can ask about discounts for project size, off-peak scheduling, or bundling multiple areas, but be cautious about negotiating so aggressively that the contractor cuts corners on materials or prep. A better strategy is to use the ranked comparisons on FloorRank to find the best value contractor in your Texas city from the start.

Question 56

How do I spot a fly-by-night floor coating company?

Accepted Answer

Fly-by-night operators often appear after a busy season, have a brand-new website with no real Texas address, show up in a van with no business signage, and offer prices 40 to 60 percent below established competitors. They often request cash payment, have no license number to verify, and vanish if there's ever a warranty claim to honor.

Question 57

What questions should I ask about the company's crew?

Accepted Answer

Ask whether the crew that shows up is the contractor's own employees or day-labor subcontractors. In-house trained crews follow consistent prep and application standards. Subcontractor heavy models can result in inconsistent quality from job to job. Also ask who specifically will be on site and whether the owner or a senior technician oversees the install.

Question 58

What is the typical timeline for a residential garage epoxy floor project?

Accepted Answer

A standard two-car garage epoxy floor coating typically takes one day for surface grinding and prep and one additional day for coating application in a two-coat system. Cure time adds 24 to 72 hours before vehicle use. Contractors who claim they can prep and coat a garage in a single half-day visit are usually cutting corners on cure or prep time.

Question 59

What happens if my concrete has existing cracks before coating?

Accepted Answer

A quality contractor will fill structural cracks with a polyurea or polyurethane crack filler and allow it to cure before grinding the surface flat. Hairline shrinkage cracks can be coated over in most cases. Ask your contractor specifically how they handle cracks and whether crack repair is included in the quoted price or billed separately.

Question 60

Is it safe to hire a floor coating contractor from social media ads alone?

Accepted Answer

Social media ads aren't a reliable signal of quality. Many low-quality contractors run convincing ads with beautiful stock-photo results that don't represent their actual work. Always verify the Texas license, check reviews on independent platforms, and compare the company against ranked contractors on a directory like FloorRank before making a hiring decision.

Question 61

How much does epoxy floor coating cost per square foot in Texas?

Accepted Answer

Residential epoxy floor coatings in Texas typically run $3 to $7 per square foot for standard systems, with premium multi-layer or metallic finishes reaching $8 to $12 or more. Price depends on prep work, number of coats, and the contractor you choose. Getting multiple quotes through a directory like FloorRank helps you compare fairly and avoid lowball bids that cut corners on surface preparation.

Question 62

What does a garage epoxy floor coating cost in Houston?

Accepted Answer

A two-car garage epoxy coating in Houston typically costs $1,200 to $3,500 depending on square footage, concrete condition, and the system used. Basic solid-color epoxy sits at the lower end, while broadcast flake or metallic finishes push costs higher. Houston's humidity also means proper moisture testing adds value, and skipping that step is a common reason cheap jobs fail within a year.

Question 63

Is polished concrete cheaper than epoxy?

Accepted Answer

Polished concrete and epoxy are often in the same price band, but for different reasons. Polished concrete in Texas typically costs $3 to $8 per square foot depending on the gloss level and number of grinding passes. Epoxy can match or exceed that cost for premium systems. Polished concrete lasts longer with less recoating, so the lifetime cost is often lower even if the upfront price is similar.

Question 64

How much does stained concrete cost in Texas?

Accepted Answer

Acid-stained or water-based stained concrete in Texas typically runs $2 to $6 per square foot for the stain and sealer combined. More elaborate multi-color designs, saw-cut patterns, or decorative borders can push the price to $8 or higher. The existing concrete condition matters a lot because cracks, patches, or prior coatings require extra prep that adds to the final cost.
