How we rank
FloorRank is an independent directory, not an ad board. We researched 540 companies across 60 Texas metros and 6 floor systems, scored each on six signals, and ranked them head to head. No company can pay for a higher spot. Here is exactly how it works.
From the whole field to your match
Every ranking runs through the same four steps, the same way, in every market we cover.
Research
For every market we pull the whole field of floor coating companies, then dig through reviews, project histories, certifications and complaint records in public sources. That's the part that takes weeks, and it's the only way to tell a crew with a real record from one with a good website.
Score
Each crew's graded on six independent signals, blended into one FloorRank Score from 0 to 100, worked out separately for every floor system they actually offer.
Rank
Scores sort into a live board per system and per market. A crew can be #1 in Houston epoxy and unranked in San Antonio polishing, because they're different races and we don't pretend otherwise.
Match

What goes into the score
No single metric decides a rank. Six signals are weighted and blended, scored independently for every system a crew offers.
Reputation
Heavy weightReview depth, ratings and sentiment across Google, the BBB and the trades, weighted for volume and recency. Three perfect reviews don't outrank three hundred strong ones, so you're never matched to a crew nobody has really tested.
Project volume
Heavy weightProof of real finished work. A shop that's pouring hundreds of floors a year has already shown it can schedule, staff and deliver.
Specialization
Heavy weightHow deeply they've mastered the system you need. Scored per system, so a metallic specialist is judged on metallic and not on warehouse coatings.
Credentials
Medium weightLicensing, insurance, manufacturer certifications, and the standards that get audited, like ANSI/ESD S20.20 on a static-control floor.
Longevity
Medium weightYears in business, and what they did when a floor went wrong. Coatings fail slowly, so a crew that's stood behind its work for a decade has answered a question a new one can't.
Dispute history
Can cap a scoreComplaints, callbacks, and what happened next. A pattern of unresolved ones caps the score however good the rest looks, because a crew that leaves complaints open is the one that leaves floors half finished.
What the number means
Every crew earns a single 0 to 100 score per system. Here is how those numbers translate into the board.
90 to 100
Elite
The crews that set the bar. Deep reputation, heavy volume, real specialization, and a clean record.
80 to 89
Established
Proven operators. You can hire one of these with confidence, as long as it's in their lane.
65 to 79
Solid
Capable crews, often newer or more niche. Worth a look if the project fits what they're good at.
Below 65
Emerging
Tracked, not yet near the top. Thin proof, short history, or something unresolved on the record.
Rankings move
A FloorRank ranking is a snapshot of who's great right now, not a plaque from five years ago. The board shifts as new evidence arrives.
A wave of strong reviews, a new certification, or a big completed project can push a crew up. A spike in complaints, a lapsed license, or a long quiet stretch can pull one down. That movement is the point, it keeps the board honest.
You're always seeing who earns the top spot today, not who earned it once.
Updated continuously
Reviews, projects, credentials, and complaints feed back into the score on an ongoing basis. Crews climb and slip, so the leaderboard reflects the field as it actually stands, not a frozen list.
What we refuse to do
A ranking is only worth something if it cannot be bought or faked. These lines do not move.
We never sell rank
No payment, sponsorship or ad spend moves a crew up the board. The day that changes, we'll say so right here in plain text.
We never fabricate
We don't invent review counts, certifications or stats. If we can't trace it to a source we leave it blank, because a number you can't check is the one that talks you into the wrong crew.
We never go national-only
Floors are a local trade. A crew has to actually work in your metro to rank in it, so you're never sent somebody who'll subcontract the job and disappear.
A note on the data
Company details come from public sources and get refreshed regularly. Where something isn't verified, we leave it blank rather than guess. Ratings and review counts reflect what we could confirm at research time. Run one of these companies and spot something off? Reach out and we will correct it.
